- 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/2 cup cocoa powder
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 1 large egg
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 tablespoon red food coloring
- Powdered sugar for rolling
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- Whisk together the flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, and salt in a mixing bowl. Set aside.
- Cream the butter and sugar in a large bowl until light and fluffy.
- Beat in the egg and vanilla extract, mixing until well combined.
- Add the red food coloring to the mixture and stir until evenly distributed.
- Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, stirring just until combined.
- Chill the dough in the refrigerator for about 15 minutes to firm up.
- Scoop and roll the dough into balls, then roll each ball in powdered sugar until well coated.
- Place the balls on the prepared baking sheet, spacing them about 2 inches apart.
- Bake for 10-12 minutes, until the edges are set but the centers are still soft.
- Let them cool on the baking sheet for a few minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.
Notes
Don’t overmix the dough after adding the dry ingredients to keep the cookies tender. Chill the dough if it feels too soft to handle.
