Ingredients
Scale
- 2 pounds of strawberries (or your fruit of choice), hulled and chopped
- 1/4 cup lemon juice
- 1 cup sugar
- 1 packet pectin (optional)
Instructions
- Prepare the fruit: Wash and hull the strawberries (or your chosen fruit), then chop them into small pieces.
- Combine ingredients: In a large pot, mix the chopped fruit, lemon juice, and sugar, stirring until the sugar starts to dissolve.
- Cook the mixture: Bring the mixture to a boil over medium-high heat. Stir frequently to prevent sticking.
- Add pectin (if using): If you’re using pectin to help the jam set, add it now and continue to cook for another 5-10 minutes, stirring constantly.
- Check the consistency: To see if it’s ready, place a small amount on a cold plate and allow it to sit for a minute. Run your finger through the jam; if it holds its shape, it’s done.
- Jar the jam: Pour the hot jam into sterilized jars while hot, then seal them immediately. Allow them to cool at room temperature.
Notes
Use ripe fruit for the best flavor. Sterilize jars to avoid spoilage. Adjust sugar based on fruit sweetness.
