- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 1 cup unsalted butter (2 sticks), melted
- 3 eggs, room temperature
- 2 ½ teaspoons vanilla extract
- 2 cups cake flour
- 2 teaspoons baking powder
- 1 teaspoon salt
- ⅔ cup sour cream
- 2 tablespoons granulated sugar, for topping
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9×9-inch baking dish.
- In a large bowl, mix together the sugar and melted butter for about 1 minute until light and airy.
- Add the eggs one at a time, followed by the vanilla, mixing well after each addition.
- In a separate bowl, sift together the cake flour, baking powder, and salt. Gradually add this dry mixture to the wet ingredients and mix until just combined.
- Gently fold in the sour cream until fully mixed.
- Pour the batter into the prepared baking dish and sprinkle the top with the 2 tablespoons of sugar.
- Bake for 30–35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
- Allow the cake to cool slightly before slicing and serving.
Notes
For a refreshing twist, add lemon or orange zest to the batter. Mix in chocolate chips or nuts for added flavor.
