Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup melted butter or olive oil
  • 1 cup filling (e.g., cheese, spinach, or nuts)
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. Lay out a sheet of filo dough on a clean surface and brush it lightly with melted butter or olive oil.
  3. Layer another sheet of filo on top and brush again with melted butter.
  4. Spoon your chosen filling across one end of the dough, leaving space at the edges.
  5. Sprinkle with salt, pepper, and any additional herbs or spices you prefer.
  6. Fold the sides of the filo over the filling and roll it up tightly from the filling side to form a log.
  7. Place the rolled pastry on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
  8. Brush the top with more melted butter to help it crisp up nicely.
  9. Bake for 15-20 minutes or until golden brown and flaky.

Notes

To make vegan/gluten-free, use plant-based butter and gluten-free filo dough. For extra flavor, add pesto or sun-dried tomatoes.
