- 40 Saltine crackers
- 1 cup Butter, melted
- 1 cup Brown sugar
- 2 cups Chocolate chips, semi-sweet
- 1 cup Nuts, chopped (optional)
- 1 cup Candy canes, crushed (optional)
- Sea salt, for sprinkling (optional)
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
- Line a baking sheet with aluminum foil or parchment paper, then arrange the saltine crackers in a single layer.
- Melt the butter in a saucepan over medium heat, then add the brown sugar.
- Stir the mixture until it begins to boil, then let it boil for 3 minutes without stirring.
- Pour the caramel mixture evenly over the saltine crackers.
- Bake in the preheated oven for 5-7 minutes, or until bubbly.
- Remove from the oven and immediately sprinkle the chocolate chips over the hot caramel.
- Let the chocolate sit for a few minutes to melt, then spread it out smoothly with a spatula.
- Top with chopped nuts and crushed candy canes if desired; then sprinkle with a little sea salt.
- Cool completely before breaking into pieces.
Notes
Don’t skip the foil for easy cleanup. Monitor baking time to prevent burning, and allow to cool fully for the best crunch.
